From blacksmith’s workshop to global market leader!

Local craftsmanship for agricultural and forestry needs

Local craftsmanship for agricultural and forestry needs

Faymonville’s roots are in Rocherath, a small village in the German-speaking region of Belgium. Its origins go back to the 19th century where the Faymonville family set up a small village blacksmith’s workshop seven generations ago. Horseshoes for workhorses were produced here, for example.

Development took its course. Until the early 1960s, the manufacture and sale of agricultural machines and tractor cabins was Faymonville’s principal business. In the year 1962, Berthold Faymonville constructed a new production hall right next door, motivated by the increasing space required for the manufacture of forestry vehicles for local and regional clients.

In the late 1960s the first semi-trailers were constructed, and the first low-bed trailers for transporting glass were introduced in 1973. This segment had a strong influence on Faymonville’s development due to the large number of manufacturers in the region.

In 1977 a special inloader was developed for transporting enormous glass panes vertically. In 1980, the first extendable semi-trailer with hydraulic steering was produced. Since then, Faymonville has concentrated increasingly on the area of special transport.

The site of the company’s founding in Rocherath had become too small over the years. To compensate, in 1988 production expanded to the nearby industrial region of Büllingen. After the death of Berthold Faymonville, his sons Alain and Yves Faymonville took over the management of the company in 1991.

In the 1990s, the vehicle range was continuously expanded and demand continued to increase. New production sites were added in Luxembourg (2003) and Poland (2006). Over the years, all the plants were expanded in multiple stages.

On a corporate level, Faymonville is part of the Faymonville group with its headquarters in Luxembourg, an internationally established manufacturer of semi-trailers, low loadersmodular vehicles and self-propelled vehicles for the sectors of special transport and heavy load transport.

In addition to Faymonville, other brands have been added to the product portfolio over time. With the MAX Trailer concept launched in 2012, the Faymonville group introduced an entirely new, innovative principle: high-quality vehicles that can be configured as needed using a modular building system.

In the year 2017, Faymonville group acquired the Italian vehicle manufacturer Cometto, specialist in the development and manufacturer of heavy load modules, self-propelled modular vehicles and special self-propelled heavy load transporters for industrial applications.

The unique variety of products offered by Faymonville, Cometto and MAX Trailer have enabled the Faymonville group to position itself as a full-range supplier in the sector of heavy load transport and special transport. The Faymonville group’s brand portfolio includes transport solutions for payloads from 15 tonnes to 25,000 tonnes … and more.
